Points East Guesthouse

Points East Guesthouse is a renovated, cozy old fisherman's home fronting the Atlantic in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, a picturesque, traditional outport (fishing village). A mere 30 km from the centre of St. John's, our location offers the best of two worlds, a friendly, small community surrounded by a spectacular coastline, but still close to the nearby capital city that is full of cultural and culinary attractions. Here we aim to recreate an earlier, simpler lifestyle by raising goats and chickens, growing fruits and berries, greens and traditional crops. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are available for our guests. In addition we provide healthy meals augmented with wild foods by our forager partner Shawn Dawson, recent author of The Forager's Dinner. At Points East we primarily cater to international guests who want to hike the East Coast Trail. However, we also welcome backpackers and hikers who are simply looking for a place to clean up, relax, enjoy the great view or may want to put up a tent. Points East is owned and operated by Dr. Elke Dettmer, a folklorist and one of the founding members of the East Coast Trail Association. She loves to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for the trail and for Newfoundland in general.
"Thanks very much, Elke! I had a fantastic time here in your wonderfully cozy home and I really appreciated all your advice about the trails as well as your knowledge about the very interesting history of Newfoundland. I loved this part of the world and I'll be telling anybody in Australia who cares to listen about how great it is here! Thanks again.” Chris, Brisbane, Australia
